These terms cover your use of the ecuGenie app for iPhone and Android. By downloading or using the app, you agree to them.

1. What ecuGenie is

ecuGenie is a reference tool for identifying automotive engine control units. It reads the serial number from an ECU label using your device camera, matches it against a database bundled with the app, and reports the identified unit together with tuning tools listed as supporting it.

It can also read a vehicle's number plate, suggest ECUs that may be fitted to a vehicle, and keep workshop records — customers, vehicles, work orders, notes, photos, files and quotes — stored on your device.

2. Licence

You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, in line with the terms of the App Store or Google Play store you obtained it from. You may not copy, decompile, reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute the app or extract and republish its database.

3. Accuracy and professional judgement

ecuGenie is an identification aid, not an authority. Optical character recognition can misread a digit, and the database may be incomplete or out of date. Always confirm an ECU's identity against the physical part and the manufacturer's own documentation before acting on a result.

ECU suggestions for a vehicle are possibilities based on catalogue data, not a confirmation of the ECU actually fitted. Only a scan of the physical label you confirm is recorded as the vehicle's ECU, and you should still verify it.

Tool compatibility information is provided for reference only. Whether a given tool can safely read or write a specific ECU depends on hardware revision, software version, vehicle configuration, and the tool vendor's current support — none of which the app can verify.

4. Use at your own risk

ECU programming, chip tuning, and related work can damage vehicles, void warranties, breach vehicle regulations, and create safety hazards. You are solely responsible for the work you perform and for ensuring it is legal in your jurisdiction. ecuGenie neither performs nor instructs such work; it only identifies parts.

5. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its data is complete or correct.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, vehicle damage, repair costs, or business interruption arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app — including reliance on an incorrect identification or compatibility listing. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

7. Third-party names

"Bosch", "KESS3", "Powergate", and other manufacturer, ECU, and tool names are the trademarks of their respective owners. They are used in this app purely to describe the hardware and tools it identifies. ecuGenie is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or associated with Robert Bosch GmbH or any tool manufacturer.

8. Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains what the app collects. In short: scanning happens on your device, and your workshop records stay on your device. We have no copy of them.

8a. Your workshop records

You are responsible for the customer and vehicle information you store in the app, including having a lawful reason to keep it and keeping it accurate. Because the records exist only on your device, we cannot recover them if the device is lost, reset or the app is deleted. Use the app's export to keep your own backups.

9. Purchases

ecuGenie is free to download. Some features require an optional auto-renewing subscription:

Scan — ECU label identification, tool support, number plate reading and ECU suggestions.
Work — everything in Scan, plus creating and editing workshop records, attachments and quotes.

Prices, billing period and any free trial are shown in the app and the store before you buy. Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account. A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it: on the App Store at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and on Google Play before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel it in your account settings for that store. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

If you bought ecuGenie 1.x while it was a paid download, the Scan features stay included for you at no extra cost, on devices signed in with the same App Store account. Work is not included and remains an optional subscription.

If a subscription ends, records you created stay on your device: you can still read, export, share and delete them, but creating and editing records requires an active Work subscription.

Billing and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their terms; refund requests must be directed to them.

10. Changes to the app and these terms

We may update, change, or discontinue features at any time. If these terms change materially, we will update this page and the date above. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to conflict of law rules. Mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence remain unaffected.
